I’ve been to Orkney many times, always for short stays, but for a longer stay it’s definitely worthwhile renting a property to have a comfortable base to relax in. You can explore the whole of the mainland – and several other islands – comfortably during the day, and be back in time to put the stove on and chill out in the evening. I’d urge anyone who hasn’t visited to head north!
